What Happens When A Police Dog Retires?
Upcoming Events
One of Cape Cod's police departments' most loyal employees is their K-9s. Risking their lives and protecting their partners, our K-9 officers work unconditionally throughout their careers.

In the past, our four-legged officers have found missing people, thousands of dollars in cash and hidden drugs, and apprehended many criminals. Dedicated to their service and committed to working with our community to provide unsurpassed police services, the Cape Cod region has ten actively working K-9s.

Upon retirement from the police department, the financial burden of maintaining the K-9 officer becomes the responsibility of the handler. This is an expensive responsibility. At the end of his career, the K-9 officer is still a community and family friend. We Don't want to lose that friend.

The Cape Cod Police K-9 Relief Fund is a retirement built by donations from local business and individuals. This fund helps ease the burden of some the veterinary costs incurred in maintaining a retired K-9 officer.
